Operates precision grinding machines to assemble products and product parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications consistent with job specifications and quality standards. Selects, mounts, attaches and calibrates a variety of attachments, grinding machines to grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc. on to surfaces.
Grinder 4 – This is an entry level or training level for new employees with no experience or those with limited skills.
Grinder 5 – Employees at this level demonstrate the ability to effectively operate a variety of equipment and tools, to interpret blueprints and specifications, and produce required finish with minimal waste.
Grinder 6 – Demonstrates high level of ability with complicated products/finishes; does more complicated and exacting jobs. Assist with training of others.
•Prior to beginning work, inspects equipment to assure that it is in safe operating condition and that any required preventative maintenance checks have been completed.
•Performs routine maintenance as required.
•Reads and interprets blueprints and work orders to insure that specifications and tolerances are met.
•Develops and applies knowledge of specified finishes and the proper operating sequence of grinding steps to obtain desired results.
•Obtains material, parts and tools as needed to complete job.
•Sets up, adjusts and operates equipment in a safe, efficient and accurate manner to produce required parts.
•Grinds welds, deburrs rough metal, produces various finishes on metal.
•Suggest methods improvements or alternate methods and materials to reduce cost and/or improve quality
•Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.
•Works to reduce scrap and improve quality.
•Checks work to make sure it meets specifications and tolerances.
•Accurately completes all required paperwork, including recording labor data.
•May be assigned to other tasks as needed to meet work load demands.
•Keep Supervisor advised of any quality problems, concerns, delays, etc.
•Advise Supervisor of any maintenance work. Maintain an orderly and safe work environment.
Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Demonstrates ability to read, interpret and apply blueprints, weld symbols and procedures.
Grinder 4 – May require 0-1 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Grinder 5 - May require 1-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Grinder 6 - May require 2 or more of experience in the field or in a related area.
