Job Description
Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision.
•Receives work assignment from Team Leader reviewing project assignment. Reviews blueprints and/or sketches to determine task feasibility and work sequence.
•Under direction, setup and operate all welding and metal fabrication equipment as needed to include shears, welders, grinders, band and cut-off saw, roll and seamers. Use extreme care in the handling and moving of materials.
•Constructs vessel and/or its component parts, working from blueprint or sketch, in a planned and organized manner which maximizes time usage and productivity.
•Operates all metal fabricating equipment, often with the assistance of a Welder/Fabricator or Journeyman according to established codes and standard, to perform weld procedures which ensure proper weld size, weld penetration, fit-up and appearance.
•As required, successfully passes code welding certification tests.
• Perform hand grinding and hand welding as needed.
•Check completed work and perform rework as required to ensure completeness and compliance with established specifications.
•Inspect product at regular intervals and complete all necessary paperwork and documentation regarding assembly and inspection records and procedures.
• Keep Team Leader and or Supervisor advised of any quality problems, concerns, delays, etc.
•Advise Project Leader and or Supervisor of any maintenance work. Maintain an orderly and safe work environment.
•Suggest methods improvements or alternate methods and materials to reduce cost and/or improve quality.
•May allocate work to lower level welders.
•Held accountable for quality.
•Performs other duties as apparent or assigned.

Job Requirements
May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Requires 1 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Requires minimal knowledge of fabricating practices and procedures. Demonstrates ability to read, interpret and apply blueprints, weld symbols and procedures.
