Job Description

Iowa Western Community College is currently seeking a Director of Campus Safety and Security to join our exciting and student-focused team at our beautiful SW Iowa Campus, in Council Bluffs Iowa. This position reports to the Dean of Student Life and Student Success. The Director of Campus Safety and Security will provide leadership, promote and maintain a safe campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of campus safety and security programs and services, including emergency management and management of parking services, maintains effective,collaborative relationships with local law enforcement agencies and emergency response services. In addition, the Director is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations related to campus safety, as well as enforcing campus rules and regulations related to campus safety and security. The Director will provide leadership, supervision, direction, and support to the Campus Safety and Security Lead Officer, part time Campus Safety and Security Officers and contracted personnel serving as security guards; conducts regular training, coaching, and evaluation in appropriate safety and security systems and procedures and builds a cohesive team of service-oriented professionals within a student-centered culture.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree is required and a minimum of 3 years of experience with college-based campus safety policies and procedures is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Hours are 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday with the expectation to be available 24/7 for emergency response. Work schedule varies and includes some nights, weekends, holidays, and additional hours (i.e., safety and security response related to significant problems). Tasks are performed in an office environment, in campus buildings including residence halls, and outdoors on the campus grounds.
Additional qualifications include ability to operate a motor vehicle, occasional lifting of 10 lbs., ability to perform effective and efficient leadership functions requiring tact, diplomacy and good judgement, ability to sit, stand, or walk, for extended periods of time, use hands to operate a computer keyboard, telephone and other basic office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear and use a phone, and some travel including by vehicle may be required. Reading, writing, calculating, social interaction skills, reasoning/analysis, ability work with minimal supervision, high degree of problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Hiring process includes ability to pass a background check, a valid U.S Driver's License and a good driving record.
Salary: $48,000 - $50,000 annually
