Job Description
SCCVMB is a historical landmark conveniently located in the heart of beautiful downtown Santa
Cruz. SCCVMB serves as a host for several local veterans organizations and provides rentable meeting and entertainment space for the community at large. SCCVMB also hosts the Wednesday Veterans Service Day during which local non-profits and veterans organizations provide outreach and services to veterans.

THE JOB: We are a non-profit organization seeking an experienced Director of Services & Operations to lead our organization through an upcoming period of expansion and growth. The Director of Services & Operations will be responsible for the management of the Santa Cruz County Veterans Memorial Building (SCCVMB) and shall oversee the administration, programs, and strategic business plan of the organization. In this role, the Director of Services & Operations will be the face of our company, working closely with the Veterans Board of Trustees (VBoT), government officials, our veterans, and the public. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, business development, and community outreach, along with the ability to work alongside other employees and volunteers to keep the building operating to its maximum efficiency. The successful candidate will demonstrate their ability to coordinate programs and events, promote facility use between veteran groups, service organizations, non-profit groups, and the general public. The Director of Services & Operations will work with the VBoT to implement and maintain the VMB strategic vision, mission, and direction.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration, or closely related field.

SKILLS: Proven track record of success in a leadership position. Ability to oversee operations of an organization or program with exposure to foundations, while maintaining solid relationships with staff, board, donors and community. A solid knowledge of accounting, budgeting, financial management and marketing. Experience in leading the process of on-going strategic planning and business development. Strong organizational abilities including event planning, delegating, program and employee development, and task facilitation. An entrepreneurial spirit, preferably including experience developing and implementing public-private partnerships to achieve community-wide social and economic goals. In depth knowledge of corporate finance and governance principles, measures of performance, and managerial best practices. Strong oral, written, and public speaking skills. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in dealing with confidential and sensitive staff and client information. In depth knowledge of building maintenance and facility operations. Previous experience working with veterans, knowledge of veterans issues. Ability to work with unhoused individuals with special needs is required.

 Basic building maintenance including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, landscaping, etc.
 Basic wiring for audio, video, lighting, and electrical systems (input, output, load, circuit breakers, etc)
 Basic operations and troubleshooting of building equipment, to include, but not limited to, boilers, HVAC, and fire alarm systems
 Basic security protocols, including commercial Fire and Safety codes and requirements.
 MSDS and handling hazmat to include, but not limited to, biohazards, chemicals, and other wastes, etc.
 Network based security camera systems management, operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance
 Basic operations and troubleshooting of audio/video equipment
 Basic operations and troubleshooting of professional sound and light boards for stage performances, productions, and other functions/events
 Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and/or Quickbooks online
 Website management, operations, and maintenance (WordPress and/or Google)
 Budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting
 Personnel management, to include hiring and training staff
 Remote control of computers using cross platform communications through software solutions such as TeamViewer, etc.
 Conflict resolution, redirection, and de-escalation
