Full-Time Position Onsite at NSWC Crane
 

NSWC Crane: Located on the third largest naval installation in the world, the Naval base provides comprehensive support for complex military systems spanning design, development, deployment and sustainment in three focus areas: Electronic Warfare, Strategic Missions and Expeditionary Warfare.


Job Series: Network Engineer
 
Ideal candidate will have experience in network design, planning, and administration with demonstrated ability to implement wide area network solutions to meet tactical and training systems interface needs. Conducts testing of network designs and maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Knowledgeable in DoD information assurance, data link protocols, message standards, systems interface / integration, and networking technologies. 
 
 
  • Provides support in maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading the core network infrastructure.This includes core network switches, end switches, network drawing, maintain current designs and well as developing future design requirements.Entry level or Journeyman level support for Sr. Admin Network Administrators.
  • Provides support and oversight in maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading application servers, SAN storage for production, test and development environments. These may include Windows based systems, and a variety of UNIX variants. Ensures that software updates, patches and configurations are maintained to current standards, assists with account creations and permission granting as well monitoring and tweaking system parameters to maximize system performance.
  • Provides the lead and oversight in maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading the core network infrastructure.This includes core network switches, end switches, network drawing, maintain current designs and well as developing future design requirements.
  • Provides support in the configuration and maintenance of desk tops and software installation. Provides support in the area of IA support ensuring that all necessary patches and upgrades have been properly installed and configured. Performs scanning and other means of validation to identify potential threats as well as confirming proper configuration has been met.Areas of support include Windows based system, UNIX variants, Networks, and data base products.
  • Takes directions and guidance from Sr. Network Engineer / Administrators and Leads
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 2-3 years’ experience
  • High School/Associate’s Degree and eight 5-8 years of directly related experience.
  • Certifications for IAM / IAT Level I / II in accordance with DoDInst 8570 (Security+)
  • CCNA is added value

Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated knowledge of Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer3 Wide Area Networking technologies across a broad variety of network vendors including:

Cisco, Juniper, Brocade, HP, MikroTik, Adva, Ciena

Demonstrated working knowledge of DoD network encryption devices

Strong knowledge of network topologies with demonstrated ability to design and implement various topologies

Demonstrated performance managing basic network concepts; DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP.

Ability to use MS Visio and other design tools to develop detailed schematics for network architecture
